Slow Down Summer!

Wow, the past 3 weeks have been tremendously busy and have gone by soooo fast! Academy is going well and I’m LOVING being back around all of my friends. But I find that I don’t have as much time to blog..or at least ‘m not making time….

The B1 presentation went well. Much better than the C presentation…but I guess that’s to be expected. I really feel like I’m getting better at teaching this class as we go along, so I guess its a good thing that the more advanced students come later in the summer.

I’ve been listening to a lot of my friends talk about theatre lately and I feel really left out. Partly because I’m not an actor, but also because there is a lot of lingo that I don’t know. it kinda gets on my nerves because I’m like “lets talk about something OTHER than theatre for a change.” But at the same time its really interesting so i just listen and learn.

I’m back at square one looking for an apartment, hopefully I can find a super awesome place that is affordable on my tiny budget.

I’ve got TONS of reading to catch up on AND I haven’t even started my work on the curriculum I’m supposed to be writing. So…its time to get busy!

busy busy

Wow, I have no time to blog anymore! I’m having the best time being back at home with my friends and teaching at the academy. Its awesome! more to come…

extra layover

so My flight from Hong Kong was delayed…according to our pilot due to a pump that was malfunctioning that we don’t actually need to fly the plane. Weird…but that delay cause me to miss my flight in San Fransisco, so I got sent to Chicago instead and now I’m waiting to go to Atlanta. Airports are cool and all, but I really can’t wait to see my sister!!!!

is this really appropriate?

My kids were asking me if I knew some of the songs they were singing in their music class…I was not expecting this to be one of them…

my sentiments exactly

People in the HK need to take this poster to heart..

And dress up in bunny suits…

I think it would make everyone a little less high strung…

I feel loved today

These past few days have been really nice. Super busy, but very nice. Dress rehearsals for Bugsy Malone were a disaster- but then turned around. I’m proud of myself and how I was able to help the kids make the best of a weird situation. I’m also amazed at how young people constanly suprise me by what they are capable of doing in a short amount of time. Also, some of my classes are drawing to close so there are all kinds of nice goodbyes going on. Its great to feel appreciated!

Del.icio.us

I couldn’t figure out how to add this video into the comment section of the previous post- so I’m just putting it here.

new internet organization

Through my del.icio.us account I ran across this article 5 Tools Everyone Working Online Should Have. I thought 2 of them sounded pretty cool so I’m trying them out. I’m always game for trying something new on the internet! Well, this is more just new to me rather than actually new. I also spent some time organizing the things I already use.

1. The author suggested that having a multi-service IM can make communication a lot easier, so I added Adium. Now I can begin developing my IM address book. I only have a few friends who chat- but it will be nice to have this set up in case I ever need it. I also LOVE the little green bird- soo cute!

2. A startpage to organize what’s important. I added Netvibes and will try it out for a while. I added all of my RSS feeds and some other odds and ends. I really love Google Reader and want to see if this will work as well. One thing that I do like is that I have separate tabs in netvibes for certain things. One tab for general things (weather, to-do list, twitter, news) one for theatre related feeds, and one for education related feeds. I bet I could create categories in Google reader- but I just never felt like I needed to- but in netvibes it just seemed too cluttered without it.

Other than that I use Entourage for my email and when firefox starts up I have tabs open to the netvibes page, facebook, and wordpress. I also have some other important sites in my bookmark toolbar for easy access (bank, school, ect)

I also use the bookmarking site Diigo which is feeding directly to my del.icio.us account because I still haven’t made enough contacts on Diigo to make it worth abandoning the del.icio.us. I am also a little frustrated that I cannot find more theatre friends on these sites- it seems that everyone on these sites is just interested in telling people to use those kinds of sites. Funny huh?

But, anyway, yay for me and my new internet organization!

Love is STILL in the Air!

More of my friends are engaged!! Congratulations Brad and Sally!

They are so perfect for each other and so in love it almost makes you want to vomit ;-)

today was difficult- tomorrow will be better

so I have officially been cussed out by a student in two languages- in English back in the states, and now in Cantonese. But unlike back in the states, this girl got absolutely NO PUNISHMENT from the school! Rediculous.

Today also marks the first time I’ve ever walked out of a classroom- I nearly didn’t go back. I’ve never felt such a loss of control and disrespet form so many students. I feel like if there is going to be a cooperating teacher in the classroom- then they should be there to help- not just sit there as the craziness escalates.

I believe God is telling me that I should not be a teacher in the traditional sense, like in the classroom. It certainly takes a special person. I am becoming more and more convinced that not only do I dislike almost everything about public schools, but that my skills are much better used in other ways. I certainly want to be an educator- but, until now I always thought that meant that I had to be in a classroom- but have learned that an educator can be anywhere. Thank God, because I hate the feeling I had today.
